As I Slowly Fade Away

V1] Take your cue from the birds / They are free in the world

They’ve no baggage to hold / As the sunset turns to gold

All day trying to live / Finding food for their kids

But I’m a stereotype / Brought up too polite

V2 ] I can see my mother still holding me and holding Gill

An old photo come to life though it never makes me cry

I can see myself up high on a ridge against the sky

Having used up all my time for this one decisive climb

Mid 8] When you’re not afraid of death you can cope with anything

But i’m still afraid to die and I’m scared to go on living -

I would drink up the whole sea if you would only stay with me

I am searching high and low for something good worth dying for

[Short instrumental]

V3] As I hit the empty road / I have lost my heavy load

If I said those 3 small words / all the pressure would return

Now I spend a lot less time / kidding myself that I am fine

I seriously believe that I’m not trying to deceive

V4] As I slowly fade away at the closing of this day

Yeah we know that this old world is a tough old place to be

Just a turn to say goodbye a few hours before you die

It’s the ending of the day as I slowly fade away

[RPT last line]

Composition Notes:

Dreaming and musing about death.

The tune was around for a while on my notebook one of my continental-type sequences done in a celtic style. I was pleased to match the sentiment and the words to the music.
