Composition Notes

An imaginary advert for an imaginary desert settlement somewhere like Arizona. That year I stayed on a ranch in Arizona and rode a horse through the desert and it got me thinking about how places like Phoenix had developed in such a dry place.

I think I mean silicon and not silicone ...

It has a laid back musical feel but the subject is pretty desperate TBH.

Santolina

V1 You must come to Santolina

Nowhere could be finer

Your dream lifestyle has finally come true

The Houses will be neater

The Water will be sweeter

Molina Creek is waiting for you

Br 1 OK it’s Dry because it hasn’t rained for years

What can we say to help to calm your fears?

V2 We built it in a hurry but there’s

No need to worry

Everything is functioning fine

Driving up the highway

Frank is singing My way

Your job is in a silicon mine

Br2 You’ll never be cold, you’ll never be blue

We built a new world and it’s specially for you

V3 There’s no lack of culture

Look up at that vulture

Circling round high in the sky

You’re the first to ever live here

Watch out for the dead steer - in the desert

No-one hears your cry

Br3 We’re leaving now to go away

You’ve got no choice you got to stay

Br2 [alt] The waters all gone, the rain never comes

The bushes are scorched burned and died everyone

V4 But the vistas are real dandy

It’s just a little sandy

We’ll take you on the cactus tour

There’s miles and miles of nowhere

But honestly we don’t care

We got your cash and sent it offshore
