Regrets Again
V1 Regrets of course I have regrets
You Wouldn’t be human if you hadn’t made mistakes
And done things you wish you hadn’t done
And Not done things you wish you had
And worked your way through things you could have done better
Like being true to you
Never go back [repeated]
V2 Im walking to the station and I see myself coming back the other way
Twenty seven years ago
Worn out from working / Walking home from the station
tired defeated depressed and stressed
No light at the end of the tunnel [repeated]
Journey through the ages of man
Complications we do not understand
Our youth is but a lifetime away
It stares up at us x3
V3 Life is sweet, life is grand
You should enjoy it while you can
But if your taste for life is gone
It makes no sense to carry on
How Will he die [repeated]
V4 [new key] I really do believe there is life after death
[BV’s] … afterlife
Even when your life seems perfect you still got something to get fucked up about
[BV’s] … fucked up about
No-one else to blame [repeated]
CH2 Nothing lasts for ever and our problems will return
Soon enough
We catch it from our mother and give it to our kids
So they care about the colour what the Farrow and Ball lids is
find me out there somewhere [repeated]
About the nightmare of commuting from the suburbs of SW London. I promised myself when I was a teenager commuting to school that I would never get a job where I had to commute into London but in 2005 I succumbed to the lure of good money. That commuting killed my spirit and this song is about that. I was lucky to get out of it in one piece TBH.
Farrow & Ball is a kind of trendy paint that middle class people use
The music is a minor chord sequence played by a classic rock band line up plus clavinet with a classic style electric guitar solo at the end. The style harks back to my teenage days while the atmosphere is dark and oppressive. I think so many rock guitarists were playing from a state of inner turmoil and substance abuse and that's where the phrasing comes from.
