Sorry kids
I’m Sorry kids it happened to you on my watch
We’ve given half your world away
I should have been alert I should have raised my voice
Not just looked the other way
I’ve no defence to offer dreams to chase and fantasies to follow
Wanted to be loved but it’s too late for that
[final phrase] we’re sorry it turned out like this
V2 It’s human greed that drives the world and makes it dark
Just people wanting more and more Some of them
have so much stuff they dream of flying to mars
They never check outside their door
Its brutal but we have to admit
Its not good – it’s pretty shit
We cannot now protect our world from what goes on
so many things that cannot be right
[V3 instrumental] doo bee doo bee
V4 it goes on and on I think I’ll die from shame Or will I simply fade away
Fading into black never coming back No-one cares much anyway
a friend the other day
challenged my commitment in a direct way
What reason do you have to sing the blues all day
When life is good in so many ways
V5 We didn’t know / We didn’t know
We couldn’t see
We didn’t try to count you in (down) {and RPT}
I’ve no defence to offer
dreams to chase and fantasies to follow
The world turned and we don’t know it
Big bucks are all there is to show it
We didn’t know / We didn’t know
We couldn’t see
Composition Notes
The environmental catastrophe all over the world that we have witnessed has largely happened in my lifetime. So this is about should I have done something about it after all I was around. Now we have eco-warrior heroes to look up to it makes regular people feel inadequate and guilty.
Musically it's a minor blues in G minor.
