Suits and Parachutes

[Interview voiceover] Yosemite is one of the most etc etc .....

Looking up at the Yosemite sky just as it’s getting dark

Daylight nearly finished for today in the National Park

Taft Point is impressive and my heart begins to thump

It’s three thousand feet someones getting ready to jump

They’re wearing suits and parachutes they’re gonna fly

They’re wearing boots suits and parachutes getting ready to fly

[change key]

They’re wearing suits and parachutes no-one knows why

They’re wearing Suits and parachutes and today they’re gonna die

Composition Notes: When I found out about BASE jumping I was so fascinated by how dangerous the sport was and how incredibly exciting it was watching the suited flyers. While I was mulling this over I was shocked to find out that Dean Potter (and Graham Hunt as well) actually did die on May 16th 2015, crashing into the wall just as he had predicted in an earlier interview.

For the introduction I transcribed Dean's interview and put on an East Coast accent and lowered the pitch of my voice to try and sound like him. The interviewer is an imaginary person apparently asking questions.

The musical introduction on fiddle, mandolin and accordion is exactly my version of a Christy Moore song I was performing in my Irish set at the time as the combination of instruments sounded to me a bit like American mountains.

The abstract music at the end is supposed to sound like someone flying and crashing.
