Surrey Drive

V1] Can’t get my head round the beauty of the countryside

a day like this it’s so good to be alive

Intense bright greens and the gold shafts of sunlight

Hazy blue Skies on this fine autumn drive

No pushy noises just a swish and a rumble

Yellows and silvers of birch in the sun

Deep velvet patches of deep friendly darkness

People together for food drink and fun

[Br1] The village green quietly resting / for a few months

before someone starts banging a ball around

V2] The stately pine shows its age while it slumbers

But doesn’t wish it was younger at all

Great oaks defying the wind and the thunder

And tiny mosses on a honey stone wall

Br2] leisurely observing the warm red brick and tiles

moving along at a stately 30 feels just fine

V3] And all is spread out like a giant muted carpet

Textures and landmarks in faint shades of brown

villages clustered on the side of the wooded hills

the candy train makes its way to the town

Mid Sect] relaxing ivy flaps harmlessly in the gentle breeze

Everyone follows their ordained path without complaint and all at ease

All is not as it seems / here is where the machines of war are hidden

among the fallen leaves - and the manicured lawns

men and women / die for country / dirty money / sombre business

supersonic / flying mayhem / killing maiming / Shooting bombing

deadly rivals / war on terror / greedy buggers / wasted humans

V4] And other men who are bold and creative

They get a van and are living the dream

Its not a dream but a lonely nightmare

Nothing is ever just what it seems

Pushing each other aside just to get on
