Today I Saw a Leaf 190
V1 Today I saw a leaf falling to the ground
Although the summers here still autumn comes around
I looked into my heart I feel it’s gonna break
The best of you is gone and me it’s gonna take
On my own not to fear
Everyone has lost someone Someone who is dear
Not sun nor sea nor sand can take away the pain
The fantasy’s no more and no-ones left to gain
V2 We were on a bridge throwing many flowers
And waiting for a bus that wouldn’t come for hours
I had a big brimmed hat and you were not to keen on it
The garden fades to black the house is brightly lit
On the rocks looking round the sea was very calm
We loved the things we found
Speaking for myself I found my voice at last
Where is all that now
Embedded in the past
V3 [second half]
On my own not to fear
Everyone has lost someone Someone who is dear
Not sun nor sea nor sand can take away the pain
The fantasy’s no more and no=ones left to gain
Composition Notes: I suppose this has the atmosphere of a costume drama on the telly something like The Chamomile Lawn. I get the feeling of South Devon listening to this I had many happy summer times there.
I like the long phrase melody and the slightly unrelated chords in the middle. This is another song on the album which has the same outro as intro I like the feeling of completeness it gives.
