Composition Notes

The personal feeling of loneliness is expressed in Verse 3 while verses 1 and 2 set the scene by telling the fictional story of an ordinary person meeting with sudden tragedy. There is no chorus as such.

The musical riff between the verses is once again inspired by Frank Zappa. As I liked the rhythm groove I had created in the first verse unusually I copied and pasted it for verses 2 and 3 where I would normally play each verse uniquely. Fretless bass is quite prominent

Bob Bought Chairs

V1 Bob bought chairs but he didn’t do the paperwork

He knew he’d fail in his life

He’d never known hunger, never known thirst

Never cut his finger on the tip of a knife

He went out alone for some fun

Somewhere where he didn’t really know no one

Thought he was safe thought

He was fine

Nothing could be further from the truth

V2 He’d never been a gambler but he gambled with his life

When he took a seat in that rollercoaster

You could say he led a charmed life and you could be quite right

But the bridge collapse was getting nearer

He was snuffed out in an instant

Had no time to be afraid.

You can wish that

You weren’t there

But now, for you, the choice is made

V3 I’ve been lonely always but I know there’s something else

When I come to look at the facts before me

Noone’s ever with you no matter how hard you try

Noone cares about your story

Everybody’s out polishing their cars

The new gods are shopping and the bar

How we got here is a mystery still head in the sand we don’t look far
